Field Trip: Art Institute of Chicago Inspires Art 101 Class Work on Beginning Drawing Concepts

As part of Beginning Drawing (Art 101), Foundations instructor Andy Conklin's recently class visited the Art Institute of Chicago. There, they viewed galleries focusing on the arts of ancient cultures of the Mediterranean region, South and Southeast Asia.

While they were there, the students applied the drawing concepts and techniques presented in the course, including line quality and weight, contour and rendering techniques, and measuring and compositional approaches.

The class came away with a sense of discovering a new place in the city, a greater appreciation of other cultures, and sketchbooks full of drawings.
