For the past several years, students in a Harrington Experimental Design class led by instructor Peter Klick have had an opportunity to turn their designs into stunning handmade Tibetan rugs in a program sponsored and produced by local merchant Oscar Isberian Rugs. This year, a rug designed by Harrington interior design alumna Susan Sissman found its way into the office of none other than Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel!
The beautiful rug, entitled “Starlight,” features a neutral background with delicate blue overlay. It caught the attention of Tom O’Briant, a friend and designer of Mayor Emanuel, who had researched locally designed furniture, rugs and art to complete the Mayor’s office. The rug will remain in his office along with the other featured pieces from Chicago-based designers and artists that reflect Mayor Emanuel’s taste for structural lines and green and neutral color palettes.
We’re very excited that Susan’s work was chosen for the Mayor’s office – way to represent Chicago designers! You can read more about the Mayor’s office design on Oscar Isberian’s blog and the Chicago Business blog.
