For anyone interested in design, the Harrington College of Design is offering a series of free workshops to help kick-start your journey into the design world! Created to provide a basic introduction to a variety of design-related subjects, each 1½-hour session consists of lecture and demonstration followed by hands-on studio work by attendees. Attend one of these free upcoming workshops to help get a better idea of what you can expect in courses at a design college!

Merchandise Mart Tour – Taught by Renee Studeman

The Merchandise Mart is a great resource for interior designers, with hundreds of showrooms with top lines of furniture, ceramic and stone tiles, carpet, fabric, paint, and more. Wear comfortable shoes for the tour because we will be doing lots of walking to get a good overview. Meet in Harrington’s lobby to head over together.
2D Design – Taught by Duffy O’Connor

Students will be introduced to basic principles of design through the creation of a simple black-and-white composition using paper. Techniques of cutting and presentation are taught along with the creation of the image.
3D Design – Taught by Duffy O’Connor
Wednesday Jul 25 6 pm–7:30 pm Room 402
A simple model of relief pattern is the focus of this workshop. Students will be introduced to techniques of construction, strategies for beginning a unique design, and the role light and shadow play in a three-dimensional image.
Posters – Taught by Adam Frommelt

Eye-catching, colorful, suggestive ... what is a poster to you? Get an introduction to layout, grid, and typography while designing your own posters in this workshop.
Drawing – Taught by Duffy O’Connor
Wednesday Aug 1 6 pm–7:30 pm Room 402
Students of this workshop will receive a brief introduction to the technique of linear perspective and how it applies to design disciplines. Some history of the technique will be explained, and students will have the opportunity to practice the method with the instructor’s guidance.
Studio: Small Product Photography – Taught by Ron Gould

Learn how to light jewelry, cosmetics, and other small products for commercial uses.
Typography – Taught by Adam Frommelt
